Partnerships
"It should generally be accepted that in operating a business there should be no net transfer of costs to future generations. Ethics may even have a part to play in something so basic as the market mechanism and we should look at ideas such as the international and voluntary Environmental Tracking eco-finance concept. We need to find ways to help those in business who want to make it more ethically responsible environmentally and socially."
- Dr Arthur Dahl, speaking as Deputy Director of UNEP.
The EIO has collaborated over the years with both individuals and large established organisations including, amongst others Greenpeace International, Friends of the Earth UK and UNEP. These activities have been assisted by its close links with the LSE Environmental Initiatives Network, which has provided unique access to a network of key practitioners able to advise the EIO project.
The EIO has been able to make joint submissions to forums such as the UK Parliamentary Environmental Audit Committee (please click here for more information) and to international events such as the UNED Preparatory Earth Summit Consultations. It has co-organised conferences and contributed to publications both at the LSE and elsewhere.
In 2009 the EIO formed a joint venture with Envirobike Ltd, a company specialising in the development and implementation of Public Bike Sharing schemes. This more “hands on approach” to tackling the issue of global warming was seen by the EIO as a perfect match with its existing ethos. For more information about Envirobike, please visit Envirobike.org.
The EIO is happy to explore new partnerships with individuals and organisations that can assist its work. To this end it recently established a working relationship with the custom index providers Standard and Poor’s for the creation of its Environmental Tracking, or ET, Index Series, as well as the Carbon Disclosure Project who provide the reference data for the ET indices.
